ANETA KAJZER

Ghosted

September 28 – November 2, 2024

Page is pleased to present Aneta Kajzer, her second solo exhibition with the gallery. The German-Polish artist creates abstract worlds rich with vibrant drips and dynamic colors that challenge viewers to discover hidden personas within her paintings. Kajzer leverages abstraction to psychological ends, inducing visions of familiar images, faces, and patterns within ambiguous visual stimuli. In her latest works, Kajzer captures the tension between spontaneity and control, making each piece a unique exploration of color, texture, and the hidden narratives within.

Kajzer’s process mirrors the fluidity and spontaneity of her eye. Starting with massive canvases laid flat on the floor, the artist often shifts them to the wall, using oversized brushes to manipulate the flow, bleeds, and overlaps of paint. Kajzer follows her intuition, sometimes twisting the canvas mid-process to change up the composition to her liking. This approach results in striking contrasts: blending control and chaos, colliding thin layers of neon with areas that appear sometimes charred, oxidized, or bruised, as though they’ve ventured too close to the sun.

Even when dried, the pigment on Kajzer’s canvas flows, fills, and swirls like moving water with an almost hypnotic rhythm. The layers of color appear to dance and converge, as if the paint itself retains a memory of its liquid state, creating an illusion of perpetual movement. In this unique interplay of personalities and painting process, new meanings and forms constantly emerge. This dynamic quality, frozen yet alive, imbues her work with a sense of ongoing transformation, making each piece a living, breathing entity.
